Hand pressed in Florence Italy, of 100% cotton.
Rossi 1931 is a family-owned and operated paper-making company in Florence, Italy, proudly crafting exceptional paper goods since 1931.
This collection features exquisite Italian designs inspired by the 15th and 16th centuries, printed on luxurious, high-quality soft paper.
Each piece is produced using the family’s traditional letterpress technique.
Originating in the 14th century, letterpress printing involves arranging type and motifs in reverse on a press plate, inking the plate, and pressing it onto the paper. This meticulous process transfers the ink while leaving a deep, textured impression, creating a distinctive three-dimensional print.
The technique requires premium, heavier-weight paper that resists tearing and thinning under pressure. Rossi’s paper is specifically crafted with soft fibers that beautifully absorb ink and impressions, resulting in a tactile experience that’s unmatched by modern printing methods.
Because each print is made individually, letterpress printing is both time-intensive and laborious. Every print showcases unique variations in ink coverage and impression depth, making each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
