 Handmade in France

Melt over a flame or in a spoon or melting device.

Not for use with a glue gun.

This line of J.Herbin wax is Old World traditional, it is
not designed to withstand the postal process.
We highly recommend this gorgeous wax for use with hand delivered items, gift wrap, certificates, or to create a seal which will crack upon bending.

If you would like to use a J.Herbin wax for mailing,
we suggest their Supple Wax line.

As this security wax is sensitive to shock, the batons may crack during shipment from France or our studio.
If the batons break into pieces, our melting spoon can easily hold small bits for melting over a flame.

About J. Herbin

J. Herbin Cire Banque is the standard in sealing waxes, and has remained unchanged since 1670.

Generations of remarkable people, from Louis XIV to Coco Chanel, have used this traditional sealing wax, and it is well known around the world as one of the highest quality sealing waxes ever made.

J. Herbin was a sailor, and from his many journeys to India he brought back to Paris formulas for manufacturing sealing wax.
His special lacquer formula improved the quality of the seals in adhesion and neatness, helping him to become famous throughout the kingdom.

Then as today, sealing wax was used for documents and correspondence, but also in decoration and bottling.
J. Herbin has supplied Chanel from its beginning with wax used for finishing touches on their perfume bottles.

Best Wax For Deep 3D Wax Stamps

Between Waterstons Mura wax and J.Herbin breakable wax, I prefer J.Herbin wax for its ease of control. This wax has a quicker set time when stamped, making for better impressions when used with deep 3D wax stamps. I use the heated spoon method with my wax sealing and find I get perfectly crisp, error free impressions more consistently with this wax as opposed to non-breakable and mura wax. The only downsides to J.Herbin breakable wax are its brittleness and its higher melting temperature (that temperature is noticeably higher than non-breakable wax and a bit higher than mura wax). It’s worth noting that the brittleness of this wax definitely requires it to be handled more carefully than mura wax. However, these particular characteristics are probably why the wax sets so nicely and consistently. A nice bonus to the J.Herbin wax is that it doesn’t have any tendency to stick to my stampers like mura wax does and has that shiny finish characteristic of breakable waxes. If you are using shallower depth 3D or the much more commonly found 2D engraved stamps you probably won’t notice much, if any difference in impression quality between J.Herbin breakable wax vs mura wax or even possibly non-breakable wax. However with deeper 3D engraved stamps, like the ones I use, there is a difference.

nice to find REAL sealing wax

I use this wax to inlay patterns in the handles of wooden spoons - as was done in the 18th and 19th centuries in Brittany, France. It is a joy to use and gives perfect results

Thank you

The sealing waxes arrived, thoughtfully and beautifully packed - an instruction manual on how to use them was also included - a thoughtful detail. The sealing waxes are wonderful, in colour and in texture, being a beginner in this firld, I am learning how to use them. Thank you Letterseals - it was a treat to recieve the waxes, to begin using them and to recieve such a nice and thoughtfully wrapped delivery.

The Real Deal Wax

Top quality sealing wax - the best really. If you’re used to sealing wax with a wick, there’s a learning curve but work it for the way the seals crisply snap when opening a letter.
